After many years of advocacy, the WIC program now includes vouchers for the purchase of fruits and vegetables. Previously, only carrots and fruit juice could be purchased with WIC vouchers. Effective October 1, 2009, the program gives $10 per month vouchers to mothers and $6 per month vouchers to children for the purchase of any variety of fruit or vegetable.
