National Action Plan

People who consume generous amounts of fruits and vegetables as part of a healthful diet are likely to have reduced risk of chronic diseases and better weight control. Yet Americans are not meeting their consumption goals, despite years of efforts by government, nonprofit, and commercial organizations. With the release of the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which included a large increase in the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables, the National Fruit and Vegetable Alliance believed a new approach was needed to increase consumption.

2015 National Action Plan Report Card
This latest report, like the two previous reports, outlines the progress that has been made in certain strategic areas related to fruit and vegetable consumption, but also the need for more work to be done. Like the 2005 and 2010 reports, PBH led the development of this updated report card. Report is free to download.

2010 National Action Plan Report Card
Led by PBH in 2010, the National Fruit & Vegetable Alliance issued a report card on progress made on strategies outlined in the 2005 National Action Plan. In spite of good progress in several areas, much work remains.

2005 National Action Plan
Led by PBH in 2005, a National Action Plan to Promote Health through Increased Fruit and Vegetable Consumption was developed as an outline of a new, comprehensive approach to increasing consumption. It proposed an integrated framework of policy, marketing, and communication strategies to help Americans obtain, prepare, and consume fruits and vegetables and, in so doing, achieve good health. Members of the National Fruit & Vegetable Alliance have been working on several of these strategies over time.
